Nina heads to India

Nina Ogot has run a collaboration with Indian sitar virtuoso Imran Khan under the title “Africa meets India” since 2024. Together, they have staged a few performances in Germany and reunite once again this February for their new venture into the Indian live music scene. With their two separate bands merged into one, they gather in India for a round of performances and recordings.

Nina and Imran will create an array of Afro-Asiatic rhythms and melodies, narrowing a cultural gap that has existed for centuries between their continents; a fascinating, mostly unexplored world of sounds where Africa meets India live on stage. Composer, lyricist and sitar player Imran Khan leads the musical troop onto prominent Indian stages like the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival in Mumbai.

For Nina Ogot, the upcoming tour is like a piece that completes a puzzle from the earlier stages of her career. Having performed at the Afro-Asia Festival in Kerala/India in 2009, she now revisits the country for two weeks in a larger and even more culturally dynamic context.
